Almost everything you wanted to see from LT230's but were afraid to ask...
Perhaps more than the engine itself, the LT230 is the heart of a Land Rover Defender. The transfer case distributes the engines power over the front and rear axle.
If well cared for and used correctly, it is a reliable unit, but it needs drivers who know how to use it. Most problems with the LT230 are due to driver's errors.
This is the LT230T 43D from our 2005 Defender Td5 110 Antares Treadwell.
It has the standard 1:410 ratio and has 160k km on the clock. The copper shims featured on the photographs are new. The reason to dismantle the gearbox was actually a faulty diagnose of a problem that was located elsewhere. Except for wear of the copper shims, the gearbox was in good condition.
